1) Early Magazine Covers
almost always paintings, almost always ethical; religious; morals
2) The Poster Cover
Advantages: ONE big picture no border, subject is clear, text don't distract from the subject at all, things have be there or the picture has to be really great or has to be really recognizable
Disadvantages: zero entry points... maybe just one, if there isn't a good photo then $ goes down... Risky photo
3) Pictures Married to Type
Advantages: they go together, the word help the photo, the words don't interfere with the photo, don't distract you, the words go with the photo, you can see the photo better
Disadvantages: you don't know what else is inside the magazine, there aren't to many entry points
4) In the Forest of Words
Advantages: tons of text on the picture, different sizes, different colors, different fonts, words everywhere
Disadvantages: too much to look at (overwhelming) overboard, covers your photo

#3 Esquire (April 1968) The controversial April 1968 magazine cover depicting Muhammad Ali impaled by six arrows appeared on the heels of his refusal to be inducted into the U.S. Army because of his religious beliefs. (Ali, convicted violating the Selective Service Act, was barred from the ring and stripped of his title.) The cover, the second of three Esquire covers defending Ali, shows the boxer martyred as St. Sebastian, a patron saint of athletes and one who was shot with arrows for his steadfast religious beliefs. This was one of the covers designed by George Lois, Esquires Art Director during the 1960s. |

Portrait and Self-Portraits Tips And Ideas
1st)
TIPS:
1.) Engaging Your Subject
2.) Hands and Other Details
3.) Use your imagination
2nd)
I like these two casual portraits, they tell some kind of story. I like how the top portrait is a shadow of the main subject, the photographer cuts off her legs but you still know they are there. The bottom portrait has the two main subjects centered and I like how they are surrounded by leaves and behind them is the beautiful sky and the water.

2nd)
I like these 2 photos because they have the main subject centered and they display the environment in different ways. The top photo displays the environment as a calm and relaxed as for the bottom on it shows a mess and the hard things. I love the colors on the top photo it gives the photo a sense of relaxation.
In these 2 portraits the photographer is being reflected through his glasses lens and a marble. I like how the photographer got creative and did something different to show themselves. In the first portrait I like that the big picture is part a guy's face but then when you look at his glasses you can see a small picture. In the second portrait I like how the photographer is holding the marble in his hand it makes me think.

3rd)
For the assignment I will be taking portraits of my partner or I will get a friend out of class. In order for my portraits to be successful I will have to keep in mind the background and try to make it look plain and not busy. I want to get casual and some environmental portraits of my subject. I will also get one self portrait on a reflected object somewhere around the school.

First Blog of 2011!!
1st)
This is one of my favorite photos because I like how the lines look like they pop out. The image looks amazing with the lines all over the place and the person centered right in the middle.
This image looks so amazing I like how the sky changes from being calm and bright to these dark clouds swirling around.
2nd)
1.) The best song of 2010 is This is Country Music by Brad Paisley. I love this song ever since he performed it on the CMA's for the first time. I love the instruments used and the beat of the song it make me sing along with him and want to get up and start dancing. :))
2.) The best movie of 2010 is Despicable Me I love this movie I barely watched it over the break and I enjoyed it. This movie is funny and cute it made me feel like a little kid again. :)
