Portraits and Self-Portraits




This is my favorite professional portrait because it has great lighting and the the woman is self centered. What makes a portraits good is when it gives off some kind of feelings so that way the view can better understand what's going on in the photo.

This portrait gives off some feelings of relax and calm. The portrait looks amazing because it shows what the person was looking at (the e

ye).

I would do portraits of others with my next 12 frames.

Ethics in Fashion Photography

1.) The model was changed in so many ways they put a whole bunch of make-up on her, fixed her hair, her posture, the size of her lips, lowered her eye brows, made her face smaller and her eyes bigger.

2.) It is not ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance because it's like saying that person is ugly that's why they had to make her look like a different person.

4.) The only changes I think would be acceptable are if you were going to change the color.

5.) Fashion photography are portraits of people advertising clothes and they change the person's appearance to make them look "BEAUTIFUL" while on the other hand photojournalism is art.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

A.) The story is mainly talking about how newspapers manipulate their photos. They change the photo to make them look more dramatic.

B.) It is not acceptable changing a photo, meaning cutting someone out of the image and making the photo look different and wrong. The public can think it's real and it can cause them to get the wrong idea.

This image is the most unethical because they made it seem like Saddam Hussein and George Bush were debating but in reality they really didn't, they confused people.

This photo isn't as bad as the other images its the least unethical, because there wasn't much done to it. The image looks the same as the original just a couple of things were change, the pipe/pole behind the woman yelling was removed and the everything was darkened.

Negatives Evaluation

1.) I think most of my negatives came out well 10/12

2.) 2/12 of my negatives look like they won't turn out well because they are not focused.

3.) I think the negative with the 2 students working together will be the best print because i can see the image very clearly.

4.) In my best negatives i think i used exposure very well because the negatives are not to dark and not to bright.

5.) I used Simplicity and centered main person. I also used the Rule of Thirds

Drug Cartels in Mexico

The topic about the drug Cartels in Juarez Mexico is a scary thing to think about, you can be killed. I think it's crazy how someone can just kill another person for a stupid reason. I didn't know how many murders there have been in Juarez but this shocked me "Within an hour, over the police scanners, a body has been found. And maybe 30 minutes later, another body." I would hate to live there, knowing that everyday you or someone you love has a high risk of being killed.

My favorite photo is the one where the police office is walking the street with his gun in his hand. He has on a mask and the only skin you can see are his hands and eyes, to hide his identity from the drug cartels. The photographer blurred the background and focused the police officer so that way the officer will stand out. The photographer used the rule of Simplicity because the police officer is in centered of the photo. This is my favorite photo because i didn't like the other photos of died bodies and because it stood out to me.

Making a Black and White print

1.) Materials:

• Safelight
• Photographic Paper
• Enlarger
• Liquid Measurement Devices
• Trays
• Tongs
• Thermometer
• Negative
• Squeegee
• Paper Safe

2.) Chemicals:

• Developer
• Stop Bath
• Fixer

3.) First you switch on the enlarger light. Place a masking easel on the baseboard. On the easel place the print paper, white side up and when done switch on enlarger light. Then you want to scale and focus the image. When you are done creatinga border around the image switch off the enlarger light. On the easel place a new print paper, sliky side up. In the filter holder place a filer and close securely. Then set the timer and press the start button. Finally expose the print paper and place the print paper in the developer, fixer, and stop bath tray.

1.) Emulsion- a mixture of two or more unblendable liquids 
2.) Aperture- hole or an opening through which light travels
3.) Masking Easel- a flat metal plate with sliding arms on all four sides for cropping the image manually
4.) Exposure- the total amount of light allowed to fall on the photographic medium during the process of taking a photograph
5.) Safe light- a light source suitable for use in a photographic darkroom
6.) Dodging- decreases the exposure for areas of the print that should be lighter
7.) Burning- increases the exposure to areas of the print that should be darker

Post Shoot Reflection

1.) When I got up close to people the lighting was either getting darker or lighter depending on the room we were in and somethings i had to focus the camera. In order to change the brightness I had to mess with the aperture.

2.) The technical aspect of photography that I was thinking about the most was the focus.  Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly.

3.) I tried to at least use simplicity and focus more on my subject.

4.) I would take my time and be more calm the next time I go out to take photos.
